In case you thought that Easter seemed early this year, you’re right.
Most of us are probably aware – that unlike Christmas, which has been fixed on the calendar at December 25th – the date of Easter adjusts every year. It turns out that the date is related to the lunar calendar.
Easter is celebrated on the Sunday after the first full moon that follows the vernal equinox – the official first day of spring.
So, spring officially began this past Thursday, the 20th, and the moon was officially full yesterday, on Friday, the 21st – although it seems full for more than just one day. This makes Easter Sunday tomorrow – the earliest it has happened since 1913.
Rest assured, it won’t come this early again for a couple of hundred years, and in 1818, Easter arrived on the earliest possible day, which is today, March 22nd.
